Has anyone read this book... The Art of Making Beautiful Fashion Doll Shoes? I'm wondering if it is worth it?

I was wondering if it was the same book by the author of this site:
Fashion Doll Shoes
but her book is just called Fashion Doll Shoes.

I am not familiar with the Hobby House Press edition of
The Art of Making Beautiful Fashion Doll Shoes.
However, the prices being asked for it seem to be quite high.
I wonder what it originally sold for, when it was in-print?

The best way to see what people think of it, is to read the
Amazon.Com reviews of it.

Two books that do have doll shoe-making information are
Learning To Be A Doll Artist, by Martha Armstrong-Hand (1999)
and
Yoshida Style BJD Making Guide by Ryo Yoshida. (2006)
The English translation of Yoshida Style is invaluable for this.

Also, I have seen several nice doll shoe making tutorials at Den of Angels
in the Sewing, Wigs, and Jewelry Making, etc. section under Workshop.

Yes I have this book.

I like it but I would not pay more than $45 for it. Alot of the stuff is already out there or common sense.

I found a fabulous BJD boots making tutorial at Deviant Art:

Making boots for BJD tutorial by ~scargeear

The pattern for the boots is here.

I am very impressed by the extremely high level of craft skill that those boots show.
All the pieces are cleanly and precisely cut, and the fitting is perfect.
It turns out that ~scargeear has an education and training for making boots.

More info can be found at my weblog.

You're welcome. :)

Although I have not yet finished my first 60cm BJD, I am nevertheless trying to study how to make wigs, clothing, and shoes for her, so that I will be prepared to start working on those things when she is finished. At my weblog, I have tried my very best to label each post with appropriate and descriptive keywords, so that I can find my posts later on, when they are buried in hundreds of posts. These are the search results for the shoes keyword: http://atelierpoupee.blogspot.com/search/label/shoes.

I already have some practice leather, from a purse I found at the Thrift store for $3.50 USD. I also have a large piece of cowhide for the outer soles. The next step is to take a pair of feet and cover them with a plastic wrap of some kind, then build up the shape of the shoe with masking tape, over the plastic wrap. That will be used to make the last for stretching the leather uppers to form the main part of the shoes. From what I understand, the leather should be soaked in water, and be wet for shaping it over the last. I have not started any of this yet. I am still collecting tutorials, and trying to understand how everything is done. At this point, I do know quite a bit more about making doll shoes than I did a year ago, when I was just starting out, making my BJD.

The web site is located in Russia, dear.
That is probably why the library computer won't go there.
Russians have a reputation for hosting unsavory web sites.
So your library has probably blocked all .ru domains

I have downloaded the tutorial and pattern to my computer.
What I can do is ZIP archive everything and attach it to an email.
If you can unzip an email attachment, then I can send it to you.
Just PM your email address to me.

Alternatively, find a friend who has a computer, and ask them to let you use it?

Diane Keeler has an amazing wigging, hat, and shoes tutorial through A for Artistic. I try to pick up hers whenever they are available. If that particular one is not available, then e-mail her. Her tutorials are so worth the money you buy them for.

Thank you very much. I have always wondered about her tutorials. I finally did get a copy of that book. I was unhappy with it considering the price I paid for it. I returned it.
